Great piece!
I think many are used to this spiked bracelets being a "stapple" of southern arabia and the african horn, but here again there is this highly adorned clasp which is uncommon....it is very similar to hoesli's pieces at least in a broad way of the floral scroll.
I think there is a close connection between both pieces....possibly for a very defined market, likely urban or with an urbanised history colesly connected to a flourishing trade network??
I can refrain from thinking of Harrar, djibouti, suakin a somali trade port or even the swahili settlements/ islands of Kenya or Tanzania!!
Recently i have discovered that even the comoros islands and the northern most tip of Madagascar have been heavily importing jewelry from southern Arabia as well and of a very high refined standard...
Thanx for the picture
Beautiful and solid bracelet Betty. If they have these flowers as decoration, they could very well have the flowers of Peter's cuffs. Looks a heavy piece, but you say still comfortable. Nice find.
Wonderful. Love the contrast with the pretty closure and the imposing cuff.
