Mystery ring, can you help me with this one. What I know is that the ring was purchased from a dealer in San Francisco who was buying from a man in Thailand who was selling jewelry from Afghanistan. I have never seen a ring quite like this one. It's surface design does somewhat resemble Afghani work but the form is not typical of Afghanistan (as far as I know.) I'm beginning to think its a one-off, possibly from Central Asia. It is made of high-quality silver, worn down in places, has a nice patina, maybe 50 years old or older. What's your guess?
Hi Suzan,
Beautiful ring. Could you turn it over please and show anothe pic., I think that the writing on the ring might be Arabic.........Maybe an arabic speaking person could decipher that particulat script (and thus give us an idea of where it comes from).
I'd love to see the front. It looks like Afghani work to me. The silver is very nice. There seems to be Arabic script on it as well in the Kufic style. A lovely piece!
