Depending on what the size actually is, this may or may not be suitable for wear by a small (Central Asian) woman. The style is completely in tune with the others I have seen - actually, they become a bit monotonous after a while, despite some variation! A great piece, all the same, and very USEFUL to see - all of them are, while we are trying to work out their purpose as best we can! Can you give the size, at all? We must remember that they need to fit a Central Asian woman, of course, historically speaking. Do I correctly read this one is for actual sale????
Hi, this is about 30 " long and is of the same type but smaller scale. This is something I was working with and it is for sale. IT has been since I posted it last year actually. There are several good pieces that are available of very good quality including an incredible belt. Not tire track work on edging, and bezel. this is related to Ivory's piece however her's his Turkamen from Chorezm or Khiva area. Scale, thickness and similariity to shape and drops are same but not surface granulation.
Yes, I think Ivory's is very different indeed, and not just from this one, but in general. I like that one very much, and it did look good on her: but that is to a significant extent due to the box not hanging too low. The style of design as well as workmanship clearly must be attributed to a different area altogether, as you have done. This is a good piece for someone who doesn't have one yet, but there is absolutely no point in our adding another one, and this would not be the first of your pieces of this kind which I'd want as an addition: I think the belt is particularly good, and have often looked at that. But we do have a number of good sizeable pieces, e.g. your crown, your headpiece ("bra" shaped), and Backman's amulet piece. Not counting smaller ones. There are also other pieces from other cultures which I am in principle keen on ... And we are hardly buyers, just now.
Looking at it further: I do like this quite a bit. There are a number of similarities to ours, as well, even though the amulet has a very different shape, and is broader, while the piece as a whole is shorter. I note again that the long piece of chain at the top, together with the panels at the side, would make the amulet hang quite low. I think that factor is crucial in the structure and its purpose.
I would recommend the piece, for sure - great and good work. Really worth having.
Ivory's piece was not for sale and only to show a variant. I believe her piece is related to these however.
Most of these types of pieces are not inexpensive and most clients that are in the position to buy them have examples already. So there are limitations with them selling easily.
To me Ivory's piece stands out as in several ways different from the others, which come across more as a group - variants on the same theme, with Ivory's having qualities more unexpected. I think the one above is a very fine piece, though - truly very good. But yes, they all do cost money, and I do understand that that restricts your selling. If money were no object with me, and if they were all for sale, Ivory's would be one I'd buy as an addition to our own, as to me its differences are interesting, and it is a very perfectly designed piece. Yes, of course there is an overlap as well, but that would not deter me. The one above is excellent, but I don't feel that I am "missing out"!
