  • Today I have seen a  kingfisher-hairpin on Ebay, the price was immense!!!

  •  I'm curious , for how much?

  • it was one Piece and the Price was Euros 620.00. I am trying to find it again, but no success so far. It was not on the German Edition, that is why I do not know. I found another one now, much cheaper:

  • Hi Eva,

much of it has to do with several issues.. in pricing.. How much some one pays, when they buy it, how much are their profit margins and as well most obviously the quality of the items themselves.

In the case with my hair sticks, these are on paper backing and generally less valuable however their condition, shape and color are quite impressive which makes these stand out compared with others.

Condition is the most important aspect of kingfisher as well as if it's on metal or hard stones are added. Metal backed ones have a longer history as well as are considered my valuable because they were worn by a wealthier person usually.

The one you first showed from ebay for less, is an average shape, style and is missing allot of feathers.  This makes it a bit over priced to me anyway in the condition it is in.  If you look at the other feather pieces I listed with pearls and hard stones, those are valuable and more rare. These styles command very high prices now because in fact the Chinese are buying and they are willing to pay to get them.

  • Hi Linda, thanks for the Information. I will look at the examples and try to compare, just to learn, although I will not buy any kingfisher hairpins, it just does not suit into my collection. I have given you below the other link with the one for 620.00 Euro, (found it now)....

  • Hi, yes saw it now. It's high yes , for me now everything seems high but then these are growing difficult and there is a very fluid market for things of this nature. Think that demand is what is the key to pricing as well, and a ready audience. If no one wants it then I'm not sure price makes a difference and until more recent times, these were not easy to sell except to those specialized collectors ..

  • @Ok, just added it for your Information. It seems the expensive one has some precious materials like Jades, etc. and is from an ancient dynasty...... Yes, the cheaper one is missing many feathers. I had not noticed at first. It was interesting to see. I just fell over it, looking for something else and was thinking of your photos with the kingfisher hairpins (you had some more earlier...)

  • Amazing I have never seen so many kingfisher in one place. These hair sticks are beautiful.

  • Thank you , the colors of these are very strong and good .  I had a whole group at one time but sold off many.  i have a very nice headdress of a Manchu variety sewn on cloth that is very interesting also but do not have a good particularly good photo of it.
