Khlal with George V Coins

This style of khlal is very popular in Tunisia. Usually the coins are imitation, but the ones on this example are genuine minted coins. The engraving is heavily worn, but at least one of them read "1919", the last year the British gov't issued these coins in Sterling.

  • This post is for Ayis, since he asked about similar ones in a photo I posted earlier.  Assuming that the fabrication of these fibulae is approximately concurrent with the coins, then I would date these to the first half of the 20th century.  British minted George V coins also often make an appearance on "sharka lira" necklaces.
