Javanese Hairpin

This hairpin is made from a copper alloy with a silver-colored finish. It is about 18 cm (7") in length. The coiled stems allow the leaf ornaments to vibrate as the wearer moves. I have seen large numbers of decorative hair pins at the local antique markets, but very few are made of precious metal. It seems that it is more important for these to be beautiful and decorative.
