Headgear - Konya – Niğde / Turkey.

Traditional festive headgear from Central-Anatolia (Konya – Niğde). Second half 19th century. The felt ‘fes’ (hat) is adorned with silver chains & pendants, and late-Ottoman copper coins. The usual metallic cover (often silver) is replaced by 19th century Ottoman coins which overlap. (Inv.nr. ba$028 - Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).
