Linda, to my expereince this beaded headdress is worn by the Oromo women of Arsi (Negelle) and also from the Bale mountains. To go with their hairstyle, braided on the skull and flowing out halfway on which these headdecorations look very charming. The Karo women have cropted short hair to the skull and mostly wear headband(made of beads) around the top of their heads.
We usually only see this stuff in books or in old field photos, so when i go to Europe it's interesting what turns up.
I took a photo of one of these the other day!

thanks, the beading looked similar to the ones I saw them wearing and thought it was the Karo group. I will look up Oromo and see if i can find a photo. thanks
Ingrid do you have field photos of this being worn? if you do , can you post them, I have not found anything like it being worn by Oromo so far. thanks
Linda, I am on my way to work, will see to it tonight or tomorrow. But, Oromo people are all over Ethiopia, they were the Vikings of Ethiopia, therefore search for the Arsi,Negelle, and the Bale region.
We used to do our camping a lot in Arsi Negelle where there are lakes and the ladies there used to sell their brass bracelets and the beaded ornaments (some done on leather) at the sides for cash and some empty tins as a tip.
The only old field photo i found, and the only photo i found under Oromo Arsi , seems like the headdress is a bit antiquated now.
