Hi Eva, a nice and solid silver ring, but are you sure it is Ethiopian? The writing for me is a bit of a riddle.
Hi Ingrid -t thanks for your comment. The Person who bought is travelling regularly to Ethiopia and bought it there. I was told it is a ring Rom the Muslim part of Ethiopia and the writing is Arab, but it does not look Arab to me.

Eva like Lynn writes no matter what it is a beautiful unusual ring. Maybe someone may recognize the writing. Now it becomes a mystery piece.
Ok, thank you both. I checked the description again. It says, it is an Ethiopian silverring, bought in Ethiopia, and this Kind is worn by the Muslims of Ethiopia and the writing are Arabic numbers. (?). Anyway, I will check the Ge-ez (or Amharic) writing tonight, just to be sure.

I venture to say that the ring is indeed from Ethiopia and sports the magic symbols and old Arabic script just as the ones we have seen before and which Lloyd compared to their Tuareg cousins. Unfortunately I cannot give you a transaction, but I recognise several symbols which Lloyd described.
I am attaching 2 pics of similar looking rings from my digital collection. One was also purchased in Ethiopia (possibly Afar), the other is shown side by side with other Ethiopian rings, though I don't remember where I found the pic...
Hi Betty, thank you very much for the detailed Information with the Pictures. This is really very helpful. I am absolutely sure that the ring was bought in Ethiopia, although it cannot be 100% excluded that perhaps it was imported from somewhere. What you say makes sense...... he said something about the Region where the Muslims live... I recognize signs on your photos that are on my ring too. (As usual, I cleaned the ring before taking the photo, thank you anyway for the compliment). Who knows, perhaps by time passing, more will be revealed about this Piece....especially the writing on it.

Well ladies, I am still not convinced. There are 3 points why I cannot place it in Ethopia, although bought in Ethiopia,
The ring is of a shape I have never seen in Ethiopia.
Than the way the inscription is done is a lot deeper than any work I have in my possession and seen in Ethiopia, (I admire the work on Eva's ring )
Looking at one of lloyd's rings you can see a high ring with almost the same sings as Eva's and it says, Tuareg ring ,bought in Mali. Also decorated on the top, Eth. rings are too thin to have decoration on the edge.
The magical protection rings mostly are from the Jimma and Harrar area.
Moslem population live all over Ethiopia,
As people travel and interact it of course, can have ended up in Ethiopia, but I still believe it has its origin somewhere else.
