Ear weight from the eastern islands of Indonesia

Ear weights of a stylised "C" shape, to be worn on distended lobes have been a persistent element of Southeast Asian ornament since neolithic times. The theme has had many variations over time and distance; yet the variations still speak of underlying common threads in the cultures across the entire region.

Usually thought of as feminine and sexual, both in Indonesia and the Philippines. The shape is closely related to the basic shape of the mamuli.
