Ear weight from Tanimbar in the Moluccas

Again, we see a variation on the earlobe weight or pendant theme. Here, and also in Sumba, the type has taken on an overlapped "twist". One can only wonder how the wide parts of these ornaments were passed through the hole in the earlobe. It would only have been possible with significantly distended lobes with large holes and thin lobe tissue left at the lower part of the lobe.
