According to my book on Uzbekistan this is a late nineteenth century pendant from Khiva, the keys represent the keys to Paradise. I too wonder exactly how it was worn -- as a pendant it could be worn in a headdress, around the neck or even at the waist. I have not yet seen a pic of a lady wearing it.
Yes of course Patricia, the keys to Paradise. These look silver.May be I am mistaken but I believed the keys to Paradise should be made of iron??? In the Zar cult they are made of iron.
