Bridal apron. Sandıklı (Afyon) / Turkey.

A bridal ‘önlük’ (women’s apron, called ‘önücek’ locally) from the Sandıklı district (Afyon province). Mid-20th century. The fabric (cotton & orlon) was woven on small looms in some artisan workshops of Afyon town. The decoration with tassels, metal sequins and ‘tel kırma’ embroidery (motives obtained by sticking narrow metallic strips through the fabric and folding them) is the work of the bride and her female housemates.
