I'm intrigued by the number of beads: 48 black ones, instead of the 33 that I would expect for a (Christian or Muslim) prayer rope. Do you know if there is a reason for that number?

Actually no , not sure, and never counted it. it appears to be original also and not changed so I'm afraid i don't know the answer to that. The beads are real , as there are so many newer made ones, also it's all coral as there are many that are not.
