Traditional festive/ceremonial velvet robe in Late-Ottoman style, called ‘bindallı entari’ (= robe, adorned with goldwork in ‘Maraş işi’ technique). Made in 1955 in Dağdibi köyü, near Keles (south of Bursa). Usuallly worn by betrothed girls; characteristic for ‘engagement robes’ are the separate motifs (not connected to each other). In a wedding dress, all motifs connect and form a gigantic tree (‘bindallı’ = thousand branches). With close-ups (see comments) of the embroideries: silver metal thread, silvery spirals & metal sequins. Purchased in Bursa in 1997. (Inv.n° bin001 - Kavak Costume Collection -Antwerpen/Belgium).
