Betty I am with you ... in that these are more than likely to be silver gilded (gold wash) hair ornaments / beads from Mauritania.
This is great!. Thank you so much. Actually, I was told that they could be Mauritanian but I was not very convinced. Now, with your great help the riddle has been solved!. What there is no doubt about is that they are very old. In fact, they look as if they had been buried.
What I do not think is that they have been ever gilded. Here you have some more pics:

It is hard to say as they are certainly very old examples. I have seen this type of bead with very little goldwash left. But maybe these were never gilded at all...
