  • Dear Meg. This is a really nice item. I assume that it is from Sumatra? On Socotra Island (south of Yemen) they have similar belts, which originates from the trading routes between Sumatra and Oman/Yemen. Peter

    I still wonder if it could not also be Indian. The stamp (RA?) seems to rule out Yemen as a possible origin - I do not know about Sumatra though.

    This way or the other, it is a beautiful, well-made piece.

  • RA is a stamp that appears on contemporary to vintage Indian jewelry.  Many examples on eBay.  Lovely jewel. 

  • It is stamped RA. I have a few other silver belts that are not stamped but look similar. Thank you for that information.
